Palmerston North Speed Chess Championship
Wednesday the 7th of March is the start of the Palmerston North Chess Club Blitz Championship. It will be held over two nights with a time control of 3 mins each with a two second increment. The increment gives players a chance not to lose on time in equal positions and games can sometimes last longer than a 5 / 0, so don't be scared by only having 3 minutes.
The AGM was held recently with some positive movement. Dennis has done a good job as President/treasurer but he will not longer have the stress of these roles. Martin Sims is the now club treasurer and Mathew king (that's me) has taken on the role as club president. Stewart will maintain his role as club captain. Full minutes will come out in next week's club magazine.

Palmerston North Chess News
Palmy Champion GM Mark Noble had a recent article in last Saturday's Manawatu Standard here is the link to the online version http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/6403195/Grand-Master-coaches-as-he-beats-the-lot. Although Susan Polgar also had the article on her website some days ago my blogging is not quite as timely. Mark is also leading the New Zealand correspondence championship with only Peter Goffin having a chance of passing him or most likey getting an equal score. Here is the crosstable.
The opening night of the Palmy Chess Club is tonight Wednesday 15th 7:30pm at the hearing house 435 Church street. The AGM is scheduled for next week with the Blitz championship to follow the week after, all are welcome.
